Cavehill Veterinary Clinic is part of the Clare Vet Group and is RCVS-accredited (per the clinic website). Reviews describe a practice that handles everyday problems and minor procedures—examples mentioned include same‑day appointments for itchy/sore ears, assessment and treatment for an eye ulcer, and full examinations for multiple pets with “several small procedures” done in the consult. Experiences appear vet-dependent: several owners describe prompt, helpful care, while one review describes feeling judged during an ulcer visit and concerns about treatment and pricing consistency.

Brilliant vet. My dog had sore itchy ears and when I rang I was seen that day and was given treatment that helped him straight away.

We've used Clare Vets, Cavehill several times, but the standard of care and attitude seem to vary greatly depending on which vet you see. The receptionists are always helpful, but my most recent visit left me very disappointed. I brought my dog in due to an eye ulcer and was unhappy with the service we received. Firstly, the vet was judgmental about the fact that I had waited two days before bringing my dog in. I explained that I initially assumed it was just irritation from grooming and had no idea of the severity, as the only symptom was her scratching at it. The vet also criticised me for not remembering the exact date of my dog’s last booster, calling it irresponsible—which I found completely unnecessary. I don’t expect to be spoken to like that by my vet. We were prescribed eye drops and painkillers, and the total cost was £124. A few days later, I returned for a check-up and saw a different vet, who was much friendlier. However, the consultation literally lasted less than five minutes, with the only advice being to continue the eye drops and return next week. I was shocked to be charged over £40 for such a brief visit with almost no additional care provided. While I understand consultation fees, this felt excessive. Especially since both receipts had different amounts for consultations and my mother was charged almost half when she brought her dog a few weeks prior. There is zero consistency. After this experience, we decided to cancel the follow-up appointment and visit another vet based on recommendations. At the new practice, we were seen immediately and prescribed the same eye drops, plus a gel to help close the ulcer—something Clare Vets had failed to provide. The new vet was surprised that the gel hadn’t been given, explaining that the eye drops alone wouldn’t have been enough. The total cost for consultation, eye drops, gel, and painkillers was £90. This included two free follow-up consultations just to check how the eye was healing (again taking less than 5 minutes). Within around a week of using the gel, my dog’s ulcer healed completely—which means she spent an extra week in pain unnecessarily due to Clare Vets not providing the proper treatment, in my opinion. As I said, the experience here depends entirely on which vet you get, but after this, I would be very hesitant to return.
